What documents will be required in ITR
Apart from Form 16, Form 26AS, Annual Information Statement (AIS), Tax Information Statement (TIS), Bank Statement and Interest Certificate are required to file ITR. These papers help taxpayers to check their income and taxes deducted so far. After submitting the paper, the next step is to choose the correct ITR form. You can choose the form according to work and income. Seven ITR forms (ITR-1 to ITR-7) have been notified for different categories of taxpayers for the financial year 2024-25.
How to fill your ITR yourself, complete process here
Step-1:
Go to the official website of the Income Tax Department and click on ‘Login’ to fill the return.
After this, enter your PAN in the User ID.​ Then click on Continue and enter your password.
Click on ‘Continue’ to log in.
Step-2:
Go to the ‘File Income Tax Return’ tab
Click on the ‘e-File’ tab > ‘Income Tax Returns’ > ‘File Income Tax Return’.
Step-3:
Select the correct ‘Assessment Year’
Use the ‘Online’ mode for filing. Select the filing type as original return or revised return.
Step-4:
Select Status
Select your applicable filing status: Individual, HUF, or Others. For most people, select ‘Individual’ and ‘Continue’.
Step-5:
Select ITR Type
Now, select the ITR type. Determine which ITR form you need based on your income sources. There are 7 ITR forms, of which ITR 1 to 4 are applicable for individuals and HUFs.
Step-6:
Select the reason for filing ITR
State the reason for filing your return: taxable income above exemption limit, meeting specific criteria, etc.
Step 7:
Verify pre-filled details
Verify the pre-filled details such as PAN, Aadhaar, name, contact details and bank details. Review your income, exemptions and deduction details. Then submit.
Step 8:
E-Verify ITR
The final step is to verify your return within the deadline (30 days). You can e-verify using methods like Aadhaar OTP, EVC, net banking or by sending a physical copy of ITR-V to CPC, Bengaluru.
