PM E-Drive subsidy is ending soon, savings will be available only on these scooters, know full details

PM E-DRIVE Scheme: To promote EV in the country, the government is running PM E-Drive Scheme. Under the scheme, now subsidy benefits will be available only on the purchase of a limited number of e-scooters and e-bikes.

PM E-DRIVE Scheme: To promote electric vehicles in the country, the central government is running the PM E-Drive scheme, under which subsidy is being given on electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and e-buses, but now the subsidy will be available only on limited units, making it a ‘first come, first served’ opportunity.

The target of the PM E-Drive scheme was that 25 lakh electric two-wheelers would be covered under the subsidy. As of May 30, 2025, subsidy has already been given on 11,98,707 units. That is, now only about 12 lakh units are yet to be given subsidy.

Similarly, in the 3-wheeler category, the government’s target was to give subsidy on 3.2 lakh units. So far 1.55 lakh units have been sold, and only 1.6 lakh units are left on which the benefit of subsidy will be available.

Help is also being given on e-buses

E-buses have also been included in the scheme to adopt EV on a large scale. So far, 5 cities of the country have expressed demand for e-buses, on the basis of which the government has approved 10,900 e-buses. Under the scheme, there is a target to give subsidy to a total of 14,028 e-buses, for which the government has set a budget of Rs 4,391 crore.

Why is it necessary to take a quick decision?

The PM E-Drive scheme is applicable till 31 March 2026, but subsidy will be given on limited units. Industry Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that more than 50% of the target of the scheme has already been completed, and the demand for EVs is faster than expected. In such a situation, subsidy on all units may end in the coming few months.

Let us tell you that under the PM E-Drive scheme, vehicles like electric scooters and bikes (2-wheelers), electric autos and loaders (3-wheelers), and electric buses (E-Bus) are eligible for subsidy. To avail this scheme, the customer does not need much process, as the registration is done through the dealer and the subsidy benefit is directly adjusted in the on-road price of the vehicle.
