Apple Watch Hypertension: Starting September 15, Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 and newer models will get hypertension notifications. The FDA-cleared feature uses the heart sensor to detect signs of high blood pressure.
Apple is rolling out a major health upgrade with watchOS 26. From September 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and later, along with Ultra 2 and newer models, will support hypertension notifications. Using advanced algorithms and the optical heart sensor, the feature tracks blood vessel response over 30 days to alert users of possible high blood pressure.
Apple Watch to Get Hypertension Notification Feature with watchOS 26
Apple is bringing a new health-focused feature to its smartwatches starting next week. With the rollout of watchOS 26 on September 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and later, along with Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later, will get a hypertension notification feature. The company confirmed the development in a statement by Apple spokesperson Zaina Khachadourian, noting that the feature has already been cleared by the FDA.
How the New Feature Works
The hypertension notification system will use data from the watch’s optical heart sensor. By analyzing how a user’s blood vessels respond to each heartbeat, the algorithm will monitor changes over a 30-day period. If potential signs of high blood pressure are detected, the user will receive a notification, helping them take timely medical action.
Global Rollout with watchOS 26
Apple announced this feature during the launch of its new Apple Watch lineup, including the Watch SE3, Series 11, and Ultra 3. The company said the update will roll out in more than 150 countries and regions, making it one of the widest global health feature rollouts to date.
Expanding Apple’s Health Ecosystem
The addition of hypertension notifications builds on Apple’s growing focus on health tracking. With features like ECG, blood oxygen monitoring, and irregular rhythm alerts already available, this new capability aims to give users an extra layer of preventive care. By turning everyday wearables into health companions, Apple continues to strengthen its role in personal health monitoring.
