BYD Sealion 6 Launch Date: BYD, already a global leader in electric mobility, is now gearing up to launch its first plug-in hybrid SUV – the Sealion 6 – in India.
In fact, the SUV was introduced at the 2023 Auto Expo and is now expected to be launched in India by the end of 2025.
Powertrain and Range
The BYD Sealion 6 is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an 18.3 kWh battery pack. This powertrain combination gives the car a full tank and a range of over 1000 km on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range hybrid SUVs in India. It has an estimated range of 80 to 90 km in electric mode only, which is much better for urban trips.
Performance and variants
The top-end single motor variant of the BYD Sealion 6 will be launched in India, while the international dual motor version will see more than 300 bhp of power and more than 500 Nm of torque.
How will the design be?
In terms of design, the exterior look of the BYD Sealion 6 is inspired by the BYD Sealion 7, but it is a bit more straightforward and has traditional styling. It has been specially designed keeping in mind long-distance travel. Its exterior design highlights include sleek headlights, aerodynamic body, long wheelbase and superb ground clearance.
Cabin Specification
The cabin features dual-tone interior theme, rotating touchscreen (approximately 12–15 inches), digital driver display, powered front seats and premium soft touch material. Technically, the SUV is equipped with several premium features, such as a 10-speaker premium audio system, 360-degree camera, advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), connected car technology, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Price and Launch Timeline
The potential price of the BYD Sealion 6 in India could be between Rs 32 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), making it slightly cheaper than the Sealion 7. The company can launch it in India by the end of 2025 .
