Jio Discontinues Rs 249 Plan: New Cheapest Recharge Now Rs 239 for 22 Days

Reliance Jio discontinues its Rs 249 and Rs 209 prepaid plans. New cheapest options now start at Rs 239 for 22 days and Rs 299 for 28 days with 1.5GB daily data.

Reliance Jio, the telecom company owned by Mukesh Ambani, has surprised its prepaid customers by discontinuing some of its entry-level recharge plans. The popular Rs 249 plan, which offered 1GB data per day, and the Rs 209 plan, valid for 22 days with 1GB data per day, have now been removed. This decision affects millions of Jio users across the country.

Cheapest 22-day plan now Rs 239

With the discontinuation of older plans, Jio users can now opt for the Rs 239 prepaid plan, which offers 1.5GB data per day, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. The plan also includes access to two Jio over-the-top (OTT) applications – JioTV and JioAICloud. The validity of this plan is 22 days, making it the new entry-level option for short-term users.

Cheapest 28-day plan now Rs 299

For a 28-day validity plan, the cheapest available recharge is now Rs 299. This plan provides 1.5GB of daily data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. Higher data plans are also available, such as the 2GB per day plan priced at Rs 349 for 28 days. Jio’s official website now only shows plans starting from 1.5GB per day, with no lower data options available.

Jio leads the telecom market

Despite the change, Jio continues to dominate the wireless market in India. As of June 2025, Jio had 47.7 crore wireless subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 39.1 crore users. Vodafone Idea held the third position with 20.42 crore users, while state-run BSNL had a subscriber base of 9.05 crore, according to the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data.

What this means for users

The discontinuation of the Rs 249 and Rs 209 plans signals Jio’s strategy to focus on slightly higher-value plans with more data and added services. Users seeking affordable entry-level plans now have limited options, with the Rs 239 plan for 22 days and Rs 299 plan for 28 days being the new baseline.

Jio’s move highlights the company’s emphasis on providing higher data and additional OTT benefits while maintaining its leadership in India’s competitive telecom market.
