MG Motor’s D1 segment sedan has been updated to the MY26 version in China, which is creating a lot of buzz. The 2026 MG5 sedan is available for sale in China at a starting price of CNY 59,900, which is around Rs 7.1 lakh before taxes. With the 2026 model, the company has added orange shade, grey, white and red colours to it.
The executive sedan segment in India is currently going through a major transformation. The C segment models have grown in size and D1 segment sedans like Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta and Hyundai Elantra have completely disappeared. However, MG Motor has a D1 segment sedan that has been updated to the MY26 version in China, which is creating a lot of buzz. 2026 MG5 Sedan Launched in China
If one does not wish to buy the Hongqi L5 in Dragonland, the car prices are generally in the affordable category. The Chinese government’s continued tax breaks for NEV manufacturing are understandable, but the price competition has ensured that ICE vehicles are also quite affordable. The recently updated 2026 MG5 sedan is a great example of this. Priced between CNY 59,900 (approx. Rs 7.1 lakh) and CNY 69,900 (approx. Rs 8.3 lakh), the 2026 MG5 sedan remains a value proposition with its sleek design and stylish fastback silhouette.
2026 MG5 Sedan Specs
The 2026 MG5 measures 4,715 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,480 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,680 mm long. Safety has been further strengthened with the use of 65% high-strength steel, 6 airbags and other features. This time the design has been kept more aggressive, which matches its character and performance very well.
Talking about its front, one can see an expansive polygonal grille with vertical slats, sleek LED headlight setup, muscular bonnet lines, large C-shaped elements in the front bumper, large alloy wheels with stylish design and an aggressive front splitter. On the side, one can see the coupe sloping roofline which ends at a small ducktail spoiler at the rear, where dual exhaust, sporty bumper and sleek LED tail lights draw attention.
MG5 Sedan Colour Option
Talking about the interior, the 2026 MG5 sedan gets a new orange/black colour theme with leatherette and fabric upholstery. The dashboard layout and complete interior are similar to its current model. It has a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and instrument cluster, 3-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting, premium audio and other features.
MG5 Sedan 2026 Powertrain
The 2026 MG5 is offered in 1.5L and 1.5T engine options. The former has a maximum power of 127 bhp and 158 Nm of torque mated to a CVT. It has a top speed of 180 kmph and a fuel efficiency of 15.67 kmpl. The latter has a higher capacity of 178 bhp and 285 Nm mated to a 7-speed DCT that has a maximum speed of 200 kmph. It accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and promises 15.5 kmpl.
