New Traffic Challan Rules in India: The Government of India has implemented new traffic rules from 2025 to prevent road accidents and to tighten traffic discipline. Now if you make even a small mistake while driving, it can cost you heavily both in terms of pocket and law.
Who is responsible if a minor drives?
Under the new traffic rules implemented from 2025, if a minor is caught driving, his parents will have to pay a fine of 25,000 and they can be jailed for up to 3 years. Apart from this, the registration of that vehicle will be canceled for 1 year and the minor will not get a driving license till the age of 25.
Double penalty for driving under the influence of alcohol
If a person is caught driving a vehicle after drinking alcohol, then for the first time, a fine of Rs 10,000 or 6 months imprisonment and for the second time a fine of Rs 15,000 and 2 years imprisonment can be imposed.
If you jump a red light, now you will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000
Earlier, the fine for jumping a red light was only Rs 500, but now it has been increased 10 times to Rs 5,000.
Heavy punishment for overspeeding and overloading
A fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed for driving at high speed and a fine of more than Rs 20,000 will be imposed for carrying more goods than the prescribed limit in a truck or commercial vehicle.
What if caught without a driving license?
If a person is caught without a valid driving license, then a fine of Rs 5,000 will have to be paid, however a valid DL present in DigiLocker or mParivahan app will be valid. If your vehicle does not have a valid PUC certificate, then a fine of Rs 10,000, 6 months imprisonment and community service order can also be given by the court.
Rules regarding seat belt and helmet
Now if anyone does not wear a seat belt in the car, either in the front or back, a fine of Rs. 1,000 will be imposed and if caught without a helmet on a bike, a fine of Rs. 1,000 will be imposed and the license can be suspended for 3 months. Using a mobile phone while driving can lead to a fine of up to Rs. 5,000 because it increases the chances of an accident manifold.
