Top 10 Midsize SUV Of May 2025: Midsize SUVs have always been the most demanding among SUV buyers in the Indian automobile market and the sales of vehicles like Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio every month are proof of this. This tradition continued in May 2025 as well and Creta emerged as the best selling midsize SUV. It was followed by SUVs like Mahindra Scorpio and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider. Hyrider sales saw a tremendous increase annually. At the same time, sales of vehicles like Seltos and Grand Vitara as well as Safari have declined. 1. Hyundai Creta
Hyundai Creta has once again retained its number 1 position. It has registered a growth of one percent year-on-year with sales of 14,860 units in May 2025. This midsize SUV is most popular among customers due to its attractive design, feature-loaded interiors and multiple engine options as well as the Creta EV.
2. Mahindra Scorpio
The Mahindra Scorpio series includes models like Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic and has maintained a strong hold in the midsize SUV segment. With sales of 14,401 units in May 2025, it has shown an annual growth of 5 per cent as compared to May 2024 last year. The Scorpio is known for its strong road presence, off-road capability and Mahindra’s trust and hence it is popular in both rural and urban markets.
3. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider sold 7,573 units in May with a 94 percent year-on-year growth. The reason for the bumper sale of this midsize SUV from Toyota is its hybrid technology, which provides excellent mileage. Also, Toyota’s reliability also makes it a strong contender among customers.
4. Mahindra XUV700
Another successful SUV from Mahindra, the XUV700, was the fourth best-selling midsize SUV in the month of May. It registered a 28 per cent year-on-year growth with 6,435 units sold last month. The XUV700 is known for its powerful engine, amazing features and safety technologies like ADAS, making it popular among those looking for premium SUVs.
5. Kia Seltos
Kia Seltos has faced a slight decline in the month of May. With sales of 6,082 units in May 2025, it registered a decline of 10 percent compared to last year. However, the Seltos still remains strong in the midsize SUV segment due to its stylish design, feature-rich cabin and performance-oriented engine options.
6. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara faced a major drop in sales in May. It has declined by a massive 47% year-on-year with sales of 5,197 units in May 2025. This figure is worrying.
7. Tata Curve
Tata Curvv has made a good place for itself in the segment with sales of 3,063 units in May 2025. The coupe-SUV design of the Curv and the trust of Tata have attracted customers and its sales are expected to increase in the future.
8. Honda Elevate
Honda Elevate also faced a decline in sales in May 2025. It has declined by 6 percent year-on-year with sales of 1,461 units. Elevate is known for its comfortable cabin and Honda’s reliability. However, due to tough competition in the midsize SUV segment, Elevate’s sales have been affected.
9. Volkswagen Tigun
Volkswagen Taigun suffered a 28 per cent year-on-year decline with sales of 1,126 units in May 2025. The Taigun is loved for its German engineering, driving dynamics and safety.
10. Tata Safari
Tata Safari is a large and premium SUV. Safari sales also declined year-on-year in May 2025. It has declined by 33 percent with sales of 1109 units. Safari is known for its muscular look, strong performance and features, but it is facing challenges due to price and other options in the segment.
