Fortuner Mild Hybrid vs Standard: Why is it better to buy a new variant instead of an old Fortuner? Know the difference between the two

Fortuner Mild Hybrid vs Standard: What is the difference between Toyota Fortuner Neo Drive Mild Hybrid and Standard model. Let’s find out, is it beneficial to buy the mild hybrid variant by paying 2 lakh more?

Fortuner Mild Hybrid vs Standard: Toyota has launched a new variant of its famous SUV Fortuner, Fortuner Neo Drive Mild Hybrid. This SUV is now available in both Legend and Standard trims, but its 48V mild hybrid system has been newly added to it. Now the question arises whether this new hybrid system really justifies the extra price of Rs 2 lakh? Let’s know.

What is the change in the powertrain?

The standard Fortuner gets a 2.8-litre diesel engine, but in the Neo Drive mild hybrid variant, this engine is now mated to a 48V lithium-ion battery and an electric motor generator. This change gives the vehicle better driving refinement and smoothness at low speeds. Although there may be a slight improvement in mileage, it is usually not the primary reason for customers buying Fortuner.

Benefit of extra features

Toyota has not only changed the engine in the Neo Drive variant, but has also added many important safety and comfort features. It includes advanced features like 7 airbags, 360 degree camera, Traction Control System (TCS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The absence of these features puts the standard Fortuner behind its competitive SUVs, especially when other companies are offering more technology at the same or less price.

Is the price hike justified?

The Neo Drive mild hybrid variant is about Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the standard Fortuner. In such a situation, the question arises whether this extra expense is justified?:
The mild hybrid system improves driving and engine refinement significantly. Let us tell you that the driving experience in cities is smoother and more responsive than before. This variant comes with future-ready technology, which is a clear step towards electrification.

Extra safety features

There is no major change in mileage. For those who drive mostly on the highway, this technology may not be very beneficial. The price hike may not be justified by all customers, especially those who make decisions on a budget.

Will there be more hybrid diesel SUVs in the future?

This move by Toyota is a big indication towards the electrification of Fortuner. In the future, it can be expected that other auto brands will also launch diesel-powered SUVs with mild hybrid systems, especially in segments where diesel engines are still a popular choice.
