Jio Discontinues Rs 249 Plan: New Cheapest Recharge Now Rs 239 for 22 Days

Reliance Jio discontinues its Rs 249 and Rs 209 prepaid plans. New cheapest options now start at Rs 239 for 22 days and Rs 299 for 28 days with 1.5GB daily data.

Reliance Jio, the telecom company owned by Mukesh Ambani, has surprised its prepaid customers by discontinuing some of its entry-level recharge plans. The popular Rs 249 plan, which offered 1GB data per day, and the Rs 209 plan, valid for 22 days with 1GB data per day, have now been removed. This decision affects millions of Jio users across the country.

Cheapest 22-day plan now Rs 239

With the discontinuation of older plans, Jio users can now opt for the Rs 239 prepaid plan, which offers 1.5GB data per day, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. The plan also includes access to two Jio over-the-top (OTT) applications – JioTV and JioAICloud. The validity of this plan is 22 days, making it the new entry-level option for short-term users.

Cheapest 28-day plan now Rs 299

For a 28-day validity plan, the cheapest available recharge is now Rs 299. This plan provides 1.5GB of daily data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. Higher data plans are also available, such as the 2GB per day plan priced at Rs 349 for 28 days. Jio’s official website now only shows plans starting from 1.5GB per day, with no lower data options available.

Jio leads the telecom market

Despite the change, Jio continues to dominate the wireless market in India. As of June 2025, Jio had 47.7 crore wireless subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 39.1 crore users. Vodafone Idea held the third position with 20.42 crore users, while state-run BSNL had a subscriber base of 9.05 crore, according to the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data.

What this means for users

The discontinuation of the Rs 249 and Rs 209 plans signals Jio’s strategy to focus on slightly higher-value plans with more data and added services. Users seeking affordable entry-level plans now have limited options, with the Rs 239 plan for 22 days and Rs 299 plan for 28 days being the new baseline.

Jio’s move highlights the company’s emphasis on providing higher data and additional OTT benefits while maintaining its leadership in India’s competitive telecom market.

Airtel prepaid users now get free Apple Music access for up to six months. The offer is available on select plans via the Airtel Thanks app.

Bharti Airtel has introduced a new entertainment benefit for its prepaid customers, expanding its premium offerings beyond connectivity. Until now, Apple Music was available only to Airtel postpaid and broadband users, but the telecom operator has now started extending free access to its prepaid base as well.

Free trial offer for select prepaid customers

Several Airtel prepaid users have reported spotting an Apple Music banner inside the Airtel Thanks app. The offer provides them with a free trial of up to six months, after which subscribers will need to pay Rs 119 per month to continue the service. Users can cancel the subscription at any time if they do not wish to continue after the trial period.

Not limited to unlimited 5G plans

Interestingly, this offer is not confined to Airtel’s unlimited 5G plans. Reports suggest that it is being rolled out across select other prepaid packs as well, though Airtel has not made any official announcement yet. This gradual expansion indicates that more prepaid customers may receive the benefit in the coming weeks.

Airtel’s shift to digital entertainment

Airtel had already bundled Apple Music and Apple TV+ with its postpaid and broadband plans. Extending these benefits to prepaid users highlights the company’s strategy of positioning itself as not just a telecom provider but also a digital entertainment hub. By offering access to global platforms like Apple Music, Airtel is strengthening customer loyalty in a highly competitive market.

More entertainment bundled in Airtel plans

Alongside Apple Music, Airtel has also launched recharge packs that provide unlimited calling, high-speed data, and subscriptions to more than 25 OTT platforms including Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, and Zee5. These plans offer content in 16 languages, catering to India’s diverse audience. Recently, the company also introduced free access to Perplexity AI Pro for some users, adding to its list of value-added services.

What it means for prepaid customers

With the addition of Apple Music, prepaid users now have access to premium entertainment previously reserved for postpaid and broadband subscribers. This move not only enhances the appeal of Airtel’s prepaid plans but also reflects the growing demand for bundled digital services in India’s telecom industry.

BSNL's 'Freedom Plan' launched: Free 4G data, calls and SMS facility for 30 days for Rs 1

To make the celebration of Independence Day special, BSNL has launched the ‘Freedom Plan’, in which users are getting 4G service for a full 30 days for just Rs 1. Let’s know about this offer in detail.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a great offer for customers. The company has launched the ‘Freedom Plan’, which offers 30 days of 4G service for just Rs 1, which will be available for a limited period. This special offer has been introduced as part of the 77th celebration of the country’s independence.

BSNL has recently completed the establishment of its indigenous 4G network across the country. Under this plan, customers will also get unlimited local and STD calling, 2GB high-speed data every day, 100 SMS/day and a free BSNL SIM.

4G is expanding rapidly

BSNL is setting up 1 lakh 4G sites across the country. This network has been built with Make in India technology, which is a big step towards strengthening Digital India.

Currently, BSNL’s competitors like Jio, Airtel and Vi are offering similar plans for Rs 349, 379 and 399. However, BSNL’s plan is the cheapest and this facility is being provided for just Rs 1 for a month.

Will not get the benefit of OTT

It is worth noting that while private telecom companies are providing 5G services and OTT apps, BSNL is currently providing only 4G service.

This step has been taken at a time when recently Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has given BSNL the target of increasing mobile service business by 50% in the next one year. Along with this, all units have also been instructed to increase enterprise business by 25-30% and fixed line business by 15-20%.

UPI: You can transfer money without a PIN in UPI! A handy biometric method!

NPCI is introducing a new method of using biometric authentication in UPI transactions. The facility of making payments without a PIN number through fingerprint scan will be coming soon.

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is the most popular payment method in India today. Every day, crores of people, businesses, and even small shops use UPI to make payments. In this situation, a big change is coming in this payment method. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is currently preparing to introduce a new method for UPI transactions through biometric identification. In this case, the facility of transferring money without a PIN number (passcode) is likely to start soon. For this, NPCI has started testing work in collaboration with several startup companies.

What is biometric identification?

Biometric identification is a technology that uses personal physical identification such as your fingerprint, face, and eyesight. The current UPI system requires a PIN number to make a transaction. However, if the new change is implemented, users will not need to enter a PIN. Instead, the transaction will be completed by scanning their fingers.

Benefits of this change

  • There is no need to remember the PIN number.
  • The speed of the transaction will increase.
  • Security will increase. No one can steal PIN numbers.
  • UPI will also be easier for senior citizens and illiterate people.

Security concerns

Biometric data is very sensitive. It needs to be stored securely. Appropriate legal restrictions should be implemented so that no company can misuse this data. NPCI is reportedly working on unique security designs for this.

What will happen in the first phase?

In the initial phase of the new system, both PIN and biometric methods will be used together. Users can choose the method they want. It will be a smooth transition.

When will it come?

It is currently in the testing phase. It is expected to be introduced for the common people in a few months. The technical work for this is fully operational on the part of NPCI. This new change will be a major revolution in the Indian money transfer system. The facility of transferring money through biometric identification without PIN is a great example of modern technological development. People can start enjoying this facility soon!

Measuring 4,323 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width and 1,649 mm in height, the ZS EV electric car is sold in the midsize SUV segment. It competes with the Tata Curve EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Mahindra XUV 400 and BYD Auto 3.

MG ZS EV Variants

The car was sold in four variants – Executive, Excite Pro, Exclusive Plus and Essence – at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 16.88 lakh to Rs. 24.94 lakh.

In this situation, as part of the celebration after completing 6 years, MG is going to sell this electric car at a discount price of Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 4.44.

This is a limited-time offer only. MG has not given any information about how long you can buy the ZS EV with this offer. However, it is certain that this offer will be valid throughout this June.

It is worth noting that all the prices mentioned here are ex-showroom prices.

Electric cars sold by MG

MG currently sells three electric car models in India. Windsor EV, Comet EV and the ZS EV. The Windsor EV is the best-selling of these. Not only for MG, but also in India, the Windsor EV is the best-selling electric car.

MG Motor recently launched the Windsor EV Pro model to further increase the sales of this Windsor EV.

The ZS EV is the least sold of these three models. Only 360 units of the ZS EV were sold last May. It seems that MG Motor has announced huge discounts in the above manner to increase its sales.
