Volvo XC60 Becomes Brand's Best-Selling Model

Volvo XC60: Volvo XC60 has now become the company’s best-selling car, surpassing even the Volvo 240. Let’s find out why this SUV has become the first choice of customers around the world.

Volvo XC60 Brand’s Best-Selling Model: Volvo XC60 has become the best-selling Volvo car ever. The company has sold 27 lakh (2.7 million) units of it so far. It has overtaken the old and famous model Volvo 240, which was at number one.

Volvo 240 was a family car that was manufactured from 1974 to 1993. More than 26 lakh units of it were sold. This car was very popular especially in Sweden and other countries. Now XC60 has broken this record. It is a modern SUV that has been made keeping in mind the needs of today’s buyers. It offers the same family car features and safety, but with power and style.

Up to 2.6 million units were sold

Volvo 240, which was produced from 1974 to 1993, was an estate or station wagon car. This model was known for its safety features and was very popular as a family car, especially in Western countries including Sweden. The total sales of this car reached around 2.6 million units.

It was World Car of the Year in 2018

Talking about the reasons for the popularity of XC60, it was first launched in the year 2008 and since then it has become one of Volvo’s most successful models. This car has received many prestigious awards and segment-first features. For example, it was awarded the ‘World Car of the Year’ award in 2018. Apart from this, the XC60 was one of the first cars in the world to be given ‘City Safety’ technology. It is a low-speed automatic braking system, which helps to avoid or reduce the speed of collision at a speed of 30 km / h. Later this feature became a standard safety feature in new cars around the world.

Volvo XC60 has a special technology ‘Oncoming Lane Mitigation’. Its job is that if the car accidentally goes into the lane of oncoming traffic, then this system helps the driver to bring it back to its correct lane.

Who does XC60 compete with?

Volvo XC60 competes with famous luxury SUVs like Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Lexus RX across the world. All these vehicles are considered very strong in their respective segments, but despite this, XC60 has created a different and reliable identity among the customers.

Who buys XC60 in India?

In India, this SUV is especially liked by those people who adopt an urban lifestyle, give priority to safety and comfort and like technology. Therefore, XC60 is very popular among urban families, corporate professionals and tech-savvy customers.

Hyundai Creta is the company’s best-selling car. Not only this, it is also the country’s number-1 SUV in its segment. Creta is steadily growing in the sales chart. Especially after the arrival of its electric model, sales have increased. This C segment SUV has been a favorite among SUV buyers in India. Currently in its second generation avatar, Hyundai is preparing a third gen model to launch in 2027. This new gen model of Creta is being prepared. It has been internally codenamed SX3. This model will reportedly come with a hybrid powertrain, which will also have tremendous mileage.

The second generation version of Hyundai Creta was launched in January 2024. The company has started the development of the new gen of India’s best-selling compact SUV. Its launch timeline is expected to be sometime in 2027. Which can also be extended to early 2028. The special thing about the third gen Creta is that it will be Hyundai’s first hybrid compact SUV in India. This could be the same hybrid powertrain that is expected to debut with the second-gen Kia Seltos. Testing of this vehicle has already begun.

This new hybrid powertrain from the Hyundai Group is reportedly a self-charging hybrid setup commonly called Strong Hybrid, based on the existing 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol engine. This setup is likely to include an electric motor to provide torque assist. Will likely act as a starter and generator. It will have a small battery pack that stores re-produced energy. Offers only a short EV range at slow speeds. Generally, the mileage figures (fuel efficiency) will be quite high. Mileage can increase by about 10% in city driving conditions and about 5% on the highway. For example, the mileage of the diesel model is 21.8Kmpl, which can increase to 25Kmpl.

This will be the fourth powertrain option for the Hyundai Creta after the trio of 1.5-litre engines (1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel). This new hybrid powertrain will debut with Hyundai’s new mid-size SUV, which will be positioned above the Alcazar and below the Tucson. The company also plans to launch a facelift for the Creta Electric, which could come out at the same time. When launched, the Hyundai Creta Hybrid will primarily compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid and the upcoming Renault Duster and its hybrid.
